“Angel of the Winds is a state-of-the art Native American casino offering 24-hour gaming through slot machines, table games, keno, and poker. We also offer a full-service lounge with entertainment, a casual restaurant, and a 24-hour eatery.

“Our data centers are the backbone of our gaming systems, and all of our slot machines are networked. It is extremely secure, with dual-access controls and 24-hour video and audio monitoring. The minute we lose our network, gaming activity stops and we are losing hard dollars in addition to loss of customer confidence and lost wages.

“Our secluded property is extremely susceptible to power failures: in one 10-month period we lost power 88 times! Prior to my joining the company, they had installed a non-APC UPS, yet we still experienced two critical systems failures in a year. It was time for a better solution, and I knew of APC’s reputation for reliability. APC also offered a vast array of products that would help us be more efficient.

“I wanted a large UPS to handle all of the power distributed to the slot floor and provide redundancy. “We designed our solution with two installations. Both units are operational and share the load of power to the gaming floor; however, in the event of a failure, each is sizable enough to operate the entire load. This allows one to come offline and be serviced without affecting operations. We also purchased separate solutions for our data centers so we could maintain the ultimate flexibility.
