“My Back-UPS® kept both my laptop and cell phone charged, which is critical to connecting with family and accessing information during a weather disaster like a hurricane.”
Manager, Bicycle Michael’s
New Orleans, LA
“Bicycle Michael’s is a full-service bicycle center—sales, rentals, and service—in New Orleans in the historic Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, just outside of the French Quarter.
“In our century-old neighborhood, the power can go out in just a light windstorm, never mind the hurricanes we’ve suffered through. These occasional issues with low voltage and brownouts prompted me to purchase a UPS. A friend had given me a used APC unit, and a knowledgeable employee at my electronics store also recommended APC® by Schneider Electric.
“I chose a Back-UPS® 1500 RS and an XS, plus a Back-UPS 350 for my home and shop network equipment as well as my personal server. They are quite valuable to me to continue serving my customers and keep lines of communication open during an outage. My goal is five nines of availability, as any equipment failure is costly in terms of both time and money.
Back-UPS to the rescue during hurricane
“In the late summer of 2008, Hurricane Gustav came ripping through New Orleans, tearing the power lines from my home, leaving us in the dark and incommunicado. My Back-UPS kept both my laptop and cell phone charged, which is critical to connecting with family and accessing information during a weather disaster like a hurricane.
“Thanks to my Back-UPSs, not having to deal with any power-related issues has added real value to my business, measured easily in saved time and equipment. When you think about the cost of not having a UPS, they are definitely worth the money.
“APC service has also been excellent. After Hurricane Katrina, I called APC for support and they replaced my unit quickly.”
