“Holston Medical Group (HMG) is a privately owned medical company in Tennessee with 15 locations. Since 1977 we have grown from a handful of family physicians to a large, multi-specialty practice of more than 150 physicians, specialists, and other providers caring for about 240,000 patients.
“Our data center is the core for providing state-of-the-art patient care, such as real-time 24x7 access to our electronic medical records at the point of care for all of our providers, as well as patient access to a portion of their medical records through a secure Web-based portal. As we have migrated to an almost completely paperless or electronic process, system downtime creates substantial stress. At its worst, downtime has the potential to negatively affect patient care. It also costs about $50,000 per day in lost revenue.
