Find Out Why Containment is Key to DCOI Compliance
No matter where you are in the journey to compliance, attending Schneider Electric’s Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) Summit on November 30 can help make the path clearer. With the fundamental DCOI requirement of Achieving Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.5, Kevin Brown, CTO, IT Division, Schneider Electric will present “Four Steps to Reducing Your PUE.”
From assessing where you are and installing monitoring (also a requirement of DCOI), to implementing improvements and going beyond just what’s mandated to “sharpening the saw” and optimizing even more, Kevin will walk through each step in detail and share specific actions that will help agencies meet the September 30, 2018 deadline.
All Summit attendees are eligible to participate in our market research program involving PUE assessment, and anyone can take advantage of our new calculator tool: Data Center Efficiency – improve Your PUE.
DCOI also states that manual collection and reporting of systems, software and hardware inventory is no longer acceptable. Thus, the process must be automated, and agencies are required to implement Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools. As Kevin puts it: “You can’t improve what you can’t measure.” He will explain the role of DCIM in proper PUE measurement.
Containment is Key
As the cooling system is the second largest consumer of energy in the data center, after the IT load, is also represents one of the largest areas for improvement — starting with air flow management. Proper containment can help increase density, eliminate hot spots, save space and better PUE efficiency. Thus, containment is key to DCOI compliance.
Kevin will also look beyond the rules of DCOI compliance to “sharpening the saw;” that is, continuing on the journey along the data center maturity model, wherein DCIM helps to further drive down PUE.
DCOI Summit Details
We have been helping enterprises and agencies optimize their data center operations and attain PUE goals for a long time and look forward to sharing this knowledge at the DCOI Summit. The event is being held at the Hay Adams Hotel, 800 16th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Hear from the Federal CIO office and join your peers and select vendor partners, to discuss the importance and implications of DCOI, and get actionable steps for meeting the mandate. Registration is free.
